Sustainability
Sustainability is ugly…well, at least our packaging is; don’t judge a bundle by its cover!
Sustainability is a big issue over here at Broad Books; we are all about giving second hand books a new life.
This focus, conveniently, means less landfill; wow, what do you know, that was easy!
In all seriousness, we just wanted to write a few lines to explain our commitment to sustainability, and why at Broad Books we are working to do our bit to protect our environment and limit landfill.
Why does it matter?
As a team, we want to ensure that anything we put out into the world is positive, and that we are limiting any potential negative side effects.
What do we do about it?
Firstly, and most importantly, we will only ever sell pre-loved items; this means those items are no longer used only once and thrown away.
Secondly, we encourage all customers (hi!) to share those books; give them even more life!
Thirdly, we aim to always use the most sustainable packaging. This can mean your bundles arrive in ugly splendour- we hope you don’t mind! Our packaging includes recycled boxes, corrugated recyclable sheets (which have the added benefit of limiting the packaging we use), making our surprise wraps from linen paper, our postcards from recyclable materials and our (limited) branded stickers on a kraft paper backing.
Fourthly, we always review the environmental policy of all partners to ensure it is in line with our own; from couriers to suppliers.
No business can be without impact, but we are working hard to minimise the environmental impact of Broad Books, by building a business around recycling books.
We always welcome your feedback and tips; if you can see ways for us to improve our approach to sustainability, please comment below.
